Call for nominations
2013 South African Women in Science Awards
The Department of Science and Technology (DST) is calling for nominations to recognise and award excellence by women scientists and researchers.
The awards are aimed at profiling women scientists and researchers as role models for younger scientists and researchers; as well as encourage and reward younger women who are starting their careers as emerging researchers and scientists.
The theme for the 2013 South African Women in Sciences Awards is “The scourge of violence against women: what is the role of science and research?”. This theme is derived from the 2013 United Nations Commission on the Status of Women’s theme (UNCSW) which is “The Elimination and prevention of all forms of violence against women and girls”, a topical issue in South Africa.
The 2013 Women in Science Awards will be presented on 16 August 2013 as part of the DST’s celebration of National Women’s Month.
