Nominations are invited for suitable candidates for the 2013 Academy of Sciences for the Developing World – Regional Office for sub-Saharan Africa (TWAS-ROSSA) Prize for Young Scientists. The award seeks to honor young scientists who have made outstanding contributions in science by awarding an annual young scientists’ prize. The award is given in line with TWAS’ objective of recognising, supporting and promoting scientific capacity and excellence in the developing world. The regional office, ROSSA, coordinates activities to this end in Sub-Saharan Africa.
This year, TWAS-ROSSA will award a prize to a young scientist whose research has made significant contribution to knowledge in the basic sciences. Priority will be given to achievements in areas that have direct relevance to problems encountered in Africa such as water, energy, climate change mitigation, food security and health i.e. basic researchthat has potential for application in countering Africa’s challenges.
